DeSoto UMC Family Carnival & Fiesta

Sunday, March 25 at 3:00 pm


Celebrate the start of spring with a family carnival and fiesta at the DeSoto site. A variety of games and activities, including a piñata, will be available. Following the carnival will be an authentic Mexican meal and the music and ministry of the Jesus es el Señor praise band. A love offering will be taken to benefit the Jesus es el Señor church.

Easter Sunrise Service at Bald Knob Cross

Everyone is invited to Easter Sunrise service at Bald Knob Cross! The church bus will leave MUMC at 5:30 am for the 6:30 am service. Come experience a wonderful service celebrating our risen Lord!

Adult-Teen Challenge Choir at DeSoto UMC

Don’t miss this second chance opportunity to see the Adult-Teen Challenge Choir out of Cape Girardeau, MO. Join us on Sunday evening, April 29 for this rescheduled event. Come early at 5:00 pm for a meal and stay for the 6:00 pm music and ministry of the Teen Challenge Choir. Teen Challenge is a long-term, residential, faith-based program that ministers to men with drug, alcohol and other addictions. The Teen Challenge Choir visits churches sharing songs and giving testimonies of how God has changed their lives and broken addictions. A love offering will be taken to benefit this organization.

Agape House

Wednesdays at 5:30 pm

DeUMC Sanctuary and outdoors

Agape House is a group of children, youth and adults that meets every Wednesday evening for fun, food, fellowship, and Christian education. The evening begins with games and recreation – outside when weather permits – then everyone comes inside for food, music and worship. The youth attend classes that are divided by ages. Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. Meetings are led by Marty and Jill Rogers and are open to anyone needing help. Women’s Study Weekend

April 7 & 8

Little Grassy Camp in Makanda, IL

A women’s study weekend will be held at Little Grassy Camp on April 7-8, 2018. Angie Baughman will lead the group through the book of Ruth. Details can be found at All women and their mothers, sisters, and friends are invited to attend.
Our lives are filled with responsibilities and demands. We often desire to spend more time with Jesus and
yet it seems impossible with all the things we are juggling. This study weekend is designed to bring women
together who need to press pause on their daily lives in order to quiet their hearts and hear His voice. Through the Old Testament Book of Ruth, learn how Jesus serves as both our redeemer and defender and gives us an opportunity to rebuild from our brokenness.
Cost includes overnight accommodations, four meals, and the Ruth participant book. Up to four people can be in a room. Each room has one bathroom.
1 person in the room – $144/person
2 people in the room – $100/person
3 people in the room – $86/person
4 people in the room – $78/person

Anticipated Job Opening

Murphysboro UMC Discipleship Coordinator

Murphysboro UMC anticipates there will be an opening for a Discipleship Coordinator position, approximately 20 hours per week, in early 2018. 
Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and lead discipleship ministries for participants of all ages
• Lead and/or assist in launching new ministries in the life of the church
• Assist pastor with development of semi-annual leadership retreats
• Supervise and mentor program and ministry staff
• A deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ, and a desire to serve others.
• Prefer Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience working in a faith-based organization in a leadership capacity.
• Currently active in a United Methodist church.
• Basic knowledge of the United Methodist denomination and structure.
• Good organizational, project management, and detail-oriented skills
• Good communication and people skills.
• Basic computer skills, including internet, email, facebook, Excel, Word.
• Valid drivers’ license; ability to travel locally and occasionally long distance

All youth are invited! Jr. High and Sr. High youth meet every Sunday in the MUMC Sr. High Room 100 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.
